I stumbled across Enso when my interest in Jiu Jitsu first piqued because it was the closest gym to where I was living. 5 years later, and I couldn’t be more happy that it is the gym I call home. Keisuke is a phenomenal coach, and all of the other instructors are dialed in technique and teaching it to students from beginner to advanced. More than the game, though, is the community. The group of people who train at Enso are welcoming, enjoyable to be around, and fantastic people on and off the mats.

I began training at Enso Jiu Jitsu after moving to Oregon City in 2020. The gym was recommended to me by my former coach after our gym in Portland closed during COVID. My first time there the students took the time to introduce themselves and were very welcoming. Even after training jiu jitsu for a long time it can still be intimidating to walk into a new gym. You don’t know how the vibe is going to be. Enso has a relaxed friendly atmosphere and is very accepting of beginners who are starting their jiu jitsu journey. I feel like everyone can go at their own pace whether that means someone who wants to get into jiu jitsu to be a competitor or whether it’s someone who wants to do jiu jitsu to get back into shape. The coach and owner Keisuke Andrew is one of the most knowledgeable coaches I've trained under. His instruction on the mat is impressive. He excels at explaining technique in great detail. I’m always amazed at how much I learn from him even after training jiu jitsu for the past 18 years. Keisuke is very approachable and answers any questions I throw at him. If you are looking at getting into jiu jitsu or trying to find a new gym I couldn’t recommend Enso enough.

In an area where there is a rich and widespread martial arts culture such as Portland, many clubs will have different vibes and ways that they are run. When finding a fit can be difficult, I believe Enso is unique in how it has something for everyone and what it offers for training. I was fortunate to find Enso when I did: They were extremely welcoming, the atmosphere is fantastic and positive with instruction that often feels more personal and thoughtfully considered rather than rote and routine. There is room for people at all skill levels, especially notable is the number of high level practitioners who continue to train alongside the beginners, personally coach and support those still finding their way. The culture here is second to none, it quickly became more than just a place to train, but a place I am extremely thankful to be able to call home.
