I have been to various seminars and few dojos, sensei Shiba is one of the best. First, I do appreciate the truly traditional Japanese way of training. It includes all parts of training. Second, sensei Shiba always pays attention to everyone in the dojo, and adjusts the training accordingly. Third, though it is repetitive (it must be), it is never boring. I also think we have a good friendly group of students, some are parents with their kids, training together.

I trained karate in Japan. The Japanese approach to learning is different from the Western. Shiba Dojo is real Japanese karate!

Not everyone who is good at what they do can teach, and not everyone who teaches is good at what they do. Fortunately, Shiba Sensei is the best of both. He is welcoming of all backgrounds and experience levels. My background is in a slightly different traditional Japanese karate style, and Shiba Sensei has been endlessly patient with me as I adjust to the various differences. Even with many years of training behind me, I am impressed by how much I am learning and developing as a student here, which I greatly appreciate. If you want to learn from a knowledgeable, patient, detail oriented, and dedicated instructor, then this is the place for you.

My JKA journey began many years ago, but I stopped training after a few years when I moved to Oregon and couldn’t find a JKA Dojo. I tried various other styles of martial arts, but nothing ever felt quite right. I found Shiba Sensei’s dojo through a Google search and called him immediately. I drove an hour to watch a class and knew immediately that I would be joining. Shiba Sensei is extremely patient with beginners and doesn’t hesitate to correct early so bad habits don’t begin. His workouts are intense and fun. He stresses physical safety which I truly appreciate. His training is much more affordable than the other places where I trained, and a huge plus for me is there are NO contracts. Shiba Dojo is an excellent place to learn Shotokan karate as it’s taught in Japan.

Great environment and folks to learn traditional Shotokan Karate. Shiba Sensei is an amazing mentor who spends time making sure the newer students learn correctly. Surprisingly affordable classes and at great value. Cannot complain whatsoever. If you're looking to improve your fitness, character, and/or learn how to fight, look no further than this dojo.
