reviewsWhat Members Say
Members consistently praise Loprinzi's Gym as a historic treasure with unique custom equipment and a passionate, welcoming owner named Bob who shares stories and trains alongside them. They appreciate the straightforward pricing, lack of shady contracts, and authentic old-school atmosphere that feels like stepping back in time. However, multiple reviews highlight significant issues with the women's locker room, including broken lights, non-functional water, and a sauna that has been out of commission, leading to concerns about gender equity in amenities. Some female members feel the gym doesn't fully welcome women despite the owner being described as lovely.

I actually love this gym - and that’s not hyperbole. The equipment is great, the staff is great, and the hours are great. They treat you like a person, not a paycheck like a lot of gyms do. There’s no complicated pricing, no shady contracts, and no impossible-to-cancel memberships. And they definitely don’t sell your personal data. If you genuinely care about supporting local businesses and feel that big gyms can be a trap, this is a place worth supporting. They’re doing it the right way. Come here. Get strong. Stay disciplined.

Easily the best gym for those that have a passion for lifting. And confidently takes my #1 spot for best gym I’ve had the pleasure of working out at. Being the only gym in Portland for half its life, the owner has worked out there for 60 years. Most of the equipment is custom made by Portland iron workers and welding shops that closed down years ago. It has one of the first nautilus machines ever made, and a wealth of knowledge in classic bodybuilding magazines and books. Loprinzi’s is not only a small slice of old Portland, a place of local business and passionate people; it’s an honest last bastion of the golden era of bodybuilding, a place you can hardly find amidst corporatized and indifferent box gyms set up to make a buck. The owner is there every day and works out with us in between greeting guests and sharing stories about the history of the place. Thank you, Bob, for continuing to provide and maintain such a special atmosphere and culture that’s lost to us in most places. Loprinzi’s is a modern day monument to a lifestyle I didn’t think I’d be lucky enough to experience.

This gym needs to be protected! What an absolute treasure it is. Rich in history and they do a great job at preserving it. It feels like you stepped back in time. Getting to train with original chain driven Nautilus equipment globe dumbbells were a highlight for me. I hope this gym stays open for many more years to come!

Love this gym! If you’re looking for an old school, antique, run down neighborhood gym, this is the vibe. My only beef however, which affects my review, is that women’s monthly memberships are the same as men’s, but women don’t have access to a sauna/steam room because the sauna is broken in the women’s locker room. Therefor, the women’s membership should be less expensive than the men’s membership, if men get more amenities than women. If the sauna ever gets fixed in this gym, I’d absolutely up my rating for this place.

I was so excited to try out this no-frills gym that everyone seems to love. I was pretty put off by how cramped the space was, but whatever, I could get used to that. The real treasure was the women's locker room. Guys. This locker room looks like it's been abandoned for a few decades. Neither the lights nor water worked. The sauna is completely out of commission as well. I almost couldn't stifle my laughter; it was so unbelievably decrepit and abandoned. I felt like I was in Silent Hill. The owner seemed lovely and I'm sure if you're a dude you'll fit right in here. But unfortunately old-school also means that women aren't really welcomed here. At least that's how I felt.
