Obukan is one of the oldest Judo schools in the country thus they have a lot of black belts that want to teach the next generation of Judo practitioners. The school is a nonprofit so dues are very reasonable. Obukan is the real deal.

I just started so I’m still in beginner class but they definitely care about giving you a good foundation of movement and tradition in beginner classes. The advanced classes seem to involve randori(sparring?) at the end regularly and everyone is very friendly. Senseis are friendly and experts at Judo for sure. As a physical therapist, the way they explain techniques translates well to my brain. Def excited to continue here

My 15 year old son has been attending classes for about 8 months now. He researched and found Obukan Judo and as they say the rest is history. I’ve been around a lot of variety in the martial arts world and this dojo and the instructors are by far some of the best in the US. Sensei Mark is exceptional with the beginners, providing a strong foundation. Sensei Rod is an enthusiastic, generous and empowering instructor. The accumulated years of all the instructors is formidable. The community is welcoming, supportive and safe. I couldn’t ask for better mentors for my son. I wish I found them when my boys were little. They are affordable. They provide real skills and promotions are not gratuitous, but well earned. Proud to be a part of the historical dojo and highly recommend them for the best kodokan judo martial arts.

I began my training in 1968 with Obukan in Portland oregon at the age of 13. I promoted to a respectable level after 3 years, then discontinued my training there. Over the years I have trained to black belt in three different systems of Karate. Now I have returned to my roots at Obukan after over 40 years (age 60) and found my original instructor still there practicing as well as several other black belts. I was welcomed back with love and cheer, and am very impressed how the Obukan tradition has maintained over the decades. This is due to a passion for excellent instruction and positive attitudes by all. Obukan is a JUDO club for ALL ages, and there is excellent training for any age of practitioner.
