My daughters recently started learning Jiu Jitsu at OGA and they really enjoy the fun challenge of the art. The gym is very spacious and clean perfect for wrestling and rolling around. Coach Eddie, Hannah and Courtney are the best instructors and basically magicians at tailoring moves for any level and pairing up the appropriate partner in wrestling rounds. There is lots of feedback given to the kids on refining moves in a safe manner. At the end of the class kids are acknowledged for what they did great and what coaches appreciated seeing done on the mat. I feel the coaches genuinely care for the development of the student and ample attention is paid to each one. Highly recommended Jiu Jitsu instruction for kids and youth.

Caveat: white belt perspective. I've experimented with a few gyms in the Portland area and this one is great. The owners, Eddie and Hannah are particularly welcoming, knowledgeable and go out of their way to communicate and explain fundamentals and techniques in a way thats fun and digestible. They also follow up and check in with their members regularly. Apart from that the location, size, and in particular cleanliness of the space is top tier.

Hannnah and Eddie are absolutely incredible instructors. They were so welcoming and supportive. I am a new student to there school and everyone was super nice which is rare when your a new student at a school. Furthermore, there classes were very helpful. We drilled, did positional sparring and then open rolls. Advance and beginner classes were happening at the same time so if your new your lessons will be slightly more tailored for you. Nonetheless, the community at Oregon Grappling Arts is just absolutely beautiful. I recommend all women and men come to this school. So blessed to have met Hannah and Eddie Osss 🤙🏽

Hannah and Eddie are everything you could hope for in a coach or instructor. They make sure everyone feels welcome and supported, while also tailoring instruction to each person’s skill level and physical abilities. Every class emphasizes both learning and growth, and they encourage live rounds at every practice—helping students apply techniques in real time. What truly sets them apart is that they remain students of the sport themselves, constantly incorporating new techniques and proven strategies from real-world competition. While their accomplishments as athletes speak for themselves, their dedication as coaches and gym owners is rare in the broader combat sports world. Training at OGA has been an incredible experience, and I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

I can’t say enough good things about OGA. My 7-year-old has been training there for a little over a year and half. My almost 5-year-old has been in their younger kids’ class on and off for a few months and is starting to get more interested. Eddie, Hannah, and Courtney are amazing instructors – humble and kind while also being masterful teachers that cultivate an environment that promotes hard work and teamwork. The gym has an incredibly inviting and positive atmosphere. I have no personal experience with jiu jitsu, but having watched my kids in many, many sessions, I recommend it to parents who are looking for: high energy activities (the class is hard and physically demanding, but the kids rise to the challenge), complex challenges (the kids learn complicated, highly technical moves - but the coaches are able to break it down for the kids), confidence building activities (the coaches celebrate every kid’s success, every class. The kids feel seen and valued) and grit (again, the class is hard, but the coaches motivate and inspire these kids). Both my kids adore the coaches and are growing stronger – both physically and mentally – from these classes. Also, when we first started there – I found they were not pushy at all about getting us to sign up. They give free classes for you to come see if your kid is a good fit – which is awesome. If you are on the fence, I recommend coming in to try it out.
