Black Bear Dojo

My boys have been going here since they were in middle school and both are now grown and I myself also joined a few years after them. Both of my kids gained so much confidence in themselves and have grown so much. It’s more than a dojo to us it’s like a family. If you want to learn traditional Okinawan karate from someone with direct ties back to Okinawa this is the place for you. I looked at many different martial arts schools when my sons expressed an interest in doing karate and I am so thankful that this where we landed. There is no place better to learn true self defense and not just the showy demonstration karate that so many dojos do these days.

I knew from the start of my dojo search I wanted a traditional Okinawan style. Finding Sensei was a gift. His experience and understanding are well beyond my expectations. He has the patience and maturity to understand the needs of more mature students,helping me make karate work for my body. The dojo itself is a warm group of people to be around supporting and cheerleading for each other. I sincerely enjoy each of the classes I attend and all the people I work with. Thank you Sensei, I love you guys.

An absolutely amazing place for kids and families! Our son has been attending Black Bear Dojo since December, and we can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions we’ve ever made as parents. The transformation in his confidence, focus, and sense of responsibility has been incredible. The instructors are dedicated, patient, and truly care about each student’s growth — both on and off the mat. What makes this dojo so special is the atmosphere — it’s friendly, welcoming, and feels like a real family. Everyone supports one another, and you can tell there’s a strong sense of community and respect. They also offer classes for both kids and adults, and even free self-defense classes, which shows how much they care about empowering people at every level. Excellent atmosphere to learn authentic karate. My daughter's confidence grew just within months. The adults group is very supportive towards all levels and peoples. Would highly recommend for children and adults.
