Ocean State Studios BJJ

I have been training martial arts for a few years now, only striking until recently. I quickly fell in love with grappling soon after trying it out, and when I walked through the doors to OSS I knew I was going to be spending a lot of my time here. This school has incredible atmosphere, it’s hard to not be smiling when you enter and are greeted by the owner, Jimmy. From white belt through black belt, everybody that I’ve met here is respectful and genuine unto themselves. If you want to roll with the best that RI has to offer, don’t think twice about checking out OSS.

Jimmy Connor has been my instructor, friend, and brother in Jiu Jitsu since I started in 2010. He is an incredible martial artist and teacher, utterly dedicated to the Arte Suave of Jiu Jitsu, and to the technical and martial arts development of his students as well as anyone who walks in trough the doors of Ocean State Studios BJJ. I am a college professor, dedicated to pedagogy, and can say without reservations that the group of instructors at OSS BJJ, Jimmy, Matt, Dion, and Otto are the most effective and devoted collective of teachers that I have ever come across. And the technical level at OSS speaks for itself: If you have visited and experienced it, you know. :). In sum: if you want to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a relaxed, open, friendly, yet sublimely technical environment, check Ocean State Studios out.

I met one of the instructors had a job recently down in Rhode Island. super humble very informative. Very approachable! None of this Joe Rogan cauliflower, Jump in an ice bath bullshit. Having real people as instructors super important to any endeavor especially martial arts 10 out of 10. If you’re interested in learning to roll learning to defend yourself or if you’re just easily addicted to puzzles, check this School out!

OSS BJJ is a phenomenal training facility and has the best learning environment I have ever experienced across any discipline or activity. Jimmy Connor, the owner and instructor is highly experienced knowledgeable and personable. He goes to an excruciating level of detail to make movements and techniques clear to all participants regardless of rank or experience. He has fostered an incredible community and makes every class memorable not just for the quality of the instruction but also from the humor and enjoyment he brings to each lesson. Wether you are a black belt or have never heard of BJJ at all I cannot recommend Ocean State Studios Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (OSS BJJ) enough!
