I’ve been a lifelong practitioner of martial arts, Muay Thai in particular, and have had the privilege and good fortune to train with some amazing people over the last 25 years since I fought on the local circuit here. SLC Muay Thai sets itself apart in its exceptional culture. It is accommodating, inclusive, and friendly from the top down. To see my daughter, who is an amputee after cancer took her leg, devoting herself and finding a passion in the art that very much saved me when I was younger has been moving in ways that are hard to express. They also host the stonewall self-defense club which is, unfortunately, needed more than ever in these strange and difficult times we are living in. It’s hard to find this type of generous and open atmosphere in Utah, much less in a martial arts studio. The owner frequently hosts seminars with legendary luminaries of the art, and is precise and thoughtful in her lesson plans. She is not only a masterful practitioner of the art but is, in my humble opinion, a world class instructor in her own right. It is readily apparent that she cares about the growth and progress of her students. The only regrets I have are not being able to fully take advantage of their many available class times and having not started sooner.

This gym hits all the key markers for martial arts. The environment is safe and welcoming—especially for women—the training is both high-quality and fun, and the community is incredibly supportive. You don’t need any prior experience; SLC meets you where you are and helps you find a path to your goals. After 16 years in Muay Thai, I can say without a doubt that starting here at SLC is one of the best decisions you can make.

I've tried a few gyms for Muay Thai and I can say that the level of skill, care, and passion they have here for teaching Muay Thai is unmatched! The instructors care about you and your development and the community they've created is amazing. They also have women's Muay Thai classes that create a space for women that are wanting to try martial arts to do so in a comfortable, safe environment where they're heard and supported. They also host monthly women's Muay Thai meetups where we can network and learn - and are incredibly welcoming to all skill levels. Just a 10/10 gym, if you've been wanting to try Muay Thai- this is your sign! This is your place! Don't wait, start your journey!

The atmosphere at SLC Muay Thai is hands down one of the best experiences at a gym I've had. Especially the women's class. If you're a woman and have been wanting to try out Muay Thai without feeling intimidated by the men in the room, I highly recommend the Saturday class for women only. The coaching staff are very knowledgeable and supportive. Alexis, the owner, has built a great community at her gym.

Disclaimer: I'm only evaluating the business side, not the training. For several months I've been emailing and calling SLC Muay Thai as I have several family members who were interested in joining. I've never had a single phone call or email returned. I can only assume that the person in charge of the business side of things was kicked in the head while training and has been out of commission. Unfortunately, they will be missing out on multiple new members. and we'll be looking for alternatives that will take inquiries seriously.
