Family Black Belt Academy

Our son has taken classes at Family Black Belt Academy for over a year and we can't recommend it highly enough. His self-confidence, focus, and discipline have improved dramatically. He looks forward to going to class, loves the instructors, and is making great strides. While the school theoretically teaches taekwondo to children, that's just a small part of the story. A great deal of the time is spent instructing the kids on life skills like time management, prioritization, and self-control. And while martial arts moves are taught in every class, the instructors are careful to emphasize that in the real world fighting is the last option. We are excited to watch our son continue to progress at Family Black Belt Academy and recommend it highly to other families.

Family Black Belt Academy is a wonderful community that offers support and guidance in martial arts as well as life skills and behavioral support. The instructors are engaged, connected and friendly. I really appreciate their openness and acceptance of my gender non-binary child, everyone makes an effort to use their correct pronouns. The flexibility of being able to attend any class (at your level) throughout the week is great - it allows us to fit this activity into our busy schedule. I am always amazed at how the instructors remember everyone’s name (students and families members), they check in regularly and offer 1:1 behavior coaching if this is needed. They offer regular and frequent milestones to keep students engaged and motivated. We love being part of the Family Black Belt community.

This is not just an academy, it is an extended family. Besides learning the skills, it also helps the develop the child to listen better, build confidence and create independence. The instructors will have a talk if a child is struggling at home, school or at the academy to support the family and the child to continue its growth. Highly recommend.

This institution is remarkable. They have a cohesive approach to enriching and improving families, individuals, and especially children through rigorous fitness, practical defense, and most importantly, applicable life skills that are all too lacking these days. I earned a second degree black belt many years ago at a similarly high positive energy martial arts school, and I can say with over a decade of experience behind that process that these guys are doing things the right way. And I trust them to guide my kid on the same path I took. The instructors are positive, friendly, professional, and safe. The true value in this extra curricular in general is hard to summarize or quantify, because if it clicks it can and will change your life for the better. This place felt familiar the first time I stepped foot in there. Five stars!

Both my kids (4 and 8) and my spouse and I are enrolled at Family Black Belt academy. We love going to lessons together and learning alongside our kids. The instructors are phenomenal; friendly, enthusiastic, knowledge, kind and patient. Classes are engaging and fun and we are already into the yellow belt program after about 6 months. There are lots of milestones and recognitions for progress, which act as a great motivation for our kids. Even better is an emphasis on growth outside the classroom, which leads to focus on chores at home and schoolwork. Tuition is high, but the value is fantastic. We look forward to becoming BLACK BELTS together with Family Black Academy!
