Jesse and his family are incredible! I was introduced to Gentle Giant by a close friend who lives in the neighborhood after I had a very dangerous and traumatic experience that really impacted my mental state. Though I was quite nervous about attending class, I visited in between sessions with my friend and 3 year son. I told Jesse about the experience that prompted my interest in Ju Jitsu. Jesse was so caring and empathetic and encouraged me to give it a try. And I did. It was the right decision. I attended the weekly women’s class. I initially felt like a fish out of water and Jesse was so patient and careful. He also was very aware of the traumatic experience that brought me there. There were times when my emotions would get the best of me during class and Jesse was an awesome comforter and teacher. There were even many days my son would accompany me to class. Jesse and his wife are truly awesome. They created a toddler friendly space in the facility just so my family could participate! I’m so grateful. There were even times when my son was on the practice floor with us learning moves. My time at Gentle Giant has been nothing short of incredible! Thank you Jesse!

I am 62 and was leery about getting involved in such a physical activity but I have been very impressed with Jesse's teaching style and the care and consideration he has for his students. The class is fun and also a good workout! I came out of the first session asking when I could sign up for my first competition!

I can’t give high enough praise to Jesse, the owner and coach at Gentle Giant Jiu Jitsu. Having trained at three other gyms in the greater Seattle area, I can confidently say Jesse stands out as an exceptional instructor. He meets students at every experience level where they are and creates a welcoming, ego-free environment. The class availability speaks volumes about his dedication: 6am sessions for early risers, evening classes for the post-work crowd, plus thoughtful programming for women and kids. The facility is small but state-of-the-art and perfectly situated in Madrona. As a blue belt returning after time away, I felt at home immediately. Jesse’s instruction and encouragement made it easy to reconnect with the sport. If you’re looking to get fitter, learn something new, or find a community that genuinely lifts you up, you'll find it here. Gentle Giant is a gem and Jiu-Jitsu is a rare sport that will make you feel more confident and capable than almost anything else in your life. Join this gym, you won't regret it.

My partner has enjoyed learning jiu jitsu in a supportive, fun environment. The class schedule is convenient for him to regularly train before or after work. The coaches and members seem friendly while beating him up. Pros: He has a hobby that offers both of us alone time. He does laundry more often so his gee is ready for sessions. We enjoy chatting about his sessions. Con: He comes home stinky.

I am very grateful that Gentle Giant Jiu-Jitsu opened up in Madrona. I’ve been doing jiu-jitsu seven years and have trained with world class instructors. I would put coach Jesse up there with the best. He also does an excellent job creating an inviting atmosphere for everyone. That’s the best you could ask for in a gym, top-notch instruction with an inclusive culture. It’s great for beginners, kids, or competitors and whatever your experience level there is a class for you! I feel so lucky that gentle giant is set up here.
