BBLA is a great dojo, filled with wonderful and experienced teachers. My son is in 7th grade and has been taking classes since kindergarten. I have seen him grow and mature not only physically, but also as a leader and someone committed to helping others. He learned from the great example and curriculum at BBLA.

I love being in a fun, multigenerational space where I can find exercise, community, and opportunities to grow. I am grateful for such a space and place. Additionally, the instructors continue to engage in their own ongoing learning and therefore are always bringing in new perspectives and approaches-which to me is the epitome of true teachers.

I started taking kobudo here and I'm glad I did. I love martial arts and I'm now taking karate in addition to kobudo. All the instructors are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. There's a real family atmosphere at BBLA. If you're looking for a testosterone fueled Cobra Kai like experience like at least one of the reviewers here seems to want, BBLA is not the place for you. Go to a UFC training facility. If you want a fun, friendly, self defense course that will get you in shape, then BBLA is great. The instructors take pieces of some of the best martial arts and give you a more well rounded curriculum and yes, that does include some ground fighting in addition to all the kicks and punches. Also: American Karate is an Americanized form of Karate, which originated in Okinawa, (before it was a part of Japan). It's like how Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a real thing (Jiu Jitsu originated in Japan) and Japanese Karate is different than Okinawan Karate.

My kids loved taking classes here. One was extremely shy and tearful at the beginning but the instructors were patient and after a few weeks she was out with the rest of the class. Great with kids.
