Wisconsin Athletic Club | Wauwatosa
About
This martial arts gym offers MMA and kickboxing training in a popular facility that has become a hub for hospital workers, students, and the local Wauwatosa community. Members appreciate the high-quality equipment and welcoming atmosphere, where staff members like Tayna Compton are noted for greeting people by name with genuine warmth. The gym fosters an inclusive environment where both beginners and experienced athletes feel comfortable, with members reporting consistently kind interactions and no rude encounters during their workouts.
However, the gym's success has led to significant crowding challenges during peak hours. Members frequently mention waiting for free weights and machines, requiring constant workout modifications due to limited equipment availability. Additional concerns include a small, overcrowded men's sauna that often requires standing and waiting, along with parking difficulties as the lot regularly fills up. Despite these operational challenges, members praise the responsive staff, with specific mentions of Mark Lendowski, Luke Bigis, and Nate Melendez for their professionalism during emergencies.
The facility represents a clear success story that has outgrown its current footprint, with members hoping for expansion to better support demand. While some express concerns about membership pricing and unlimited memberships contributing to crowding, the overall experience remains positive due to excellent coaching, supportive staff, and a community-focused approach to martial arts training.

Tayna Compton is so amazing. When I see her on Thursday mornings she greets me BY NAME and with a smile. I know its not a big thing with everyone but I know by experience that people love when you greet them by name. This place is amazing and the staff is awesome. I just wish it wasnt so expensive to add my family.

I have been a member of the WAC for about a year. Labor day 2025 I took a serious fall in the shower at the Wauwatosa facility. A fellow member who I am grateful for went and got help. Staff members Mark Lendowski, Luke Bigis, and Nate Melendez (hopefully this is the correct spelling of there names) responded quickly. I appreciate these guys coming to my rescue. I was helped up off the floor and bandaged up. The ambulance arrived and took me to the hospital. Thank you to everyone that was involved I sincerely appreciate your help and professionalism. Tony

The WAC in Wauwatosa is extremely popular—and for good reason. I love the facility and the equipment is very nice, but this location has simply outgrown its current footprint. With memberships booming from hospital workers and students from Froedtert, Children’s Hospital, the Medical College, and the Village of Wauwatosa community, there are just too many members using this location for it to operate efficiently during peak hours. There aren’t enough free weights or machines, and it’s common to wait for equipment or constantly modify workouts. The men’s sauna is far too small, frequently overcrowded, and often requires standing and waiting for an open seat—adding a second sauna would make a big difference. Parking is also a challenge, with the lot regularly full. This is a great facility and a clear success story, and I hope WAC considers a remodel and expansion to better support the incredible demand and continue delivering the high-quality experience members expect.

WAC needs to make a cap on a per Location basis. The Tosa WAC is already too busy… just imagine when the 2 new large apartment buildings in the village are filled up. Keep raising membership prices and keep allowing unlimited members! Great recipe for satisfied members (sarcasm)!!
