There is karate and there is KARATE. IKU Kyokushin Kai Karate, which is anchored by Kaicho David Farzinzad, is the latter. Each lesson, which is typically offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, includes self-development, fundamentals, forms, physical conditioning, heavy bag work, and maintaining proper "attitude" (perseverance, love, fearlessness, and virtue). This format is very effective for kids and young adults, who are allowed to work side by side with participants who already achieved the rank of black belt. I strongly recommend IKU for children 6 years of age and older, and for adults of all ages and conditioning levels. This dojo is the real deal and highly recommended!

Karate is often portrayed as fighting, punching, and kicking in recent times, but that is far from the truth. I began my journey through the art of Karate at the IKU Dojo in Avon, and it has changed my life. The timing of the classes are placed in good timing that ensures people who might have plans throughout the day can be there. When I first began, everyone was willing to help me. They were very careful and safe, yet still giving me enough struggle to learn. Karate is not for everyone, but as long as you are willing to learn they will not let you down. Their friendliness is the main reason I have been consistently attending class for over one decade. Highly recommend.

My seven year old son started taking karate here about 6 weeks ago. He was immediately welcomed and felt right at home from day one. I have noticed a better attitude and more confidence in everyday life in just these few short weeks. Kaicho has an infinite amount of patience with the youngsters in class. This class is not only physical training but also good for their mental health and self confidence. I was wary of having my son take karate as he does have some self control issues and can be very impulsive. He has improved some in just a short amount of time. I am looking forward to the years ahead to see him grow and improve in his training. I can’t thank Kaicho enough for taking my son in and being more than willing and able to teach my son the art of kyokushin karate.

My husband Mike and I have been training with Kaicho Farzinzad for about 2 years, with a short pause in between. From the very first day, we felt incredibly welcomed and at home in the Honbu, and look forward to our training nights every week. Kaicho is one of the most inspirational and motivating people we have ever met, and it is an honor to learn from him. Not only does our training bring us closer, but it makes us stronger and more confident in our abilities. We enjoy the bonds we have developed with the people we sweat with every week. I would recommend IKU to anyone that wants to grow stronger both physically and mentally.
