Marcelo Garcia Jiu-Jitsu Hawaii

I did a drop-in at Marcelo Garcia in Hawaii and it was such an honour to learn from one of the greatest in the sport. Marcelo is someone I truly look up to and who inspires me. The depth, clarity, and humility in the teaching made it a really special experience. An incredible experience all around, and one I’m deeply grateful for. I look forward to my next trip to the island and to training here again.

I had the incredible honor of visiting Marcelo Garcia’s Jiu Jitsu school in Kailua this week and taking three classes—a mix of both gi and no-gi—from the legend himself, Professor Marcelo Garcia. As someone who has watched and studied a number of his matches and instructional videos, getting to learn directly from him felt absolutely surreal. Professor Marcelo’s teaching style is everything you’d imagine: highly detailed, technical, and deeply intentional. Every movement has purpose, and he sets the tone by expecting all students to train with discipline, intensity, and respect while keeping technique at the forefront. I even had the chance to do guard passing specific rolls with him—an experience I’ll never forget. Beyond the world-class instruction, the school has an incredibly welcoming and humble vibe. The culture is welcoming, focused, and full of jiu jitsu practitioners hungry to learn and improve. As a bruddah visiting from Maui, I was treated with plenty aloha and felt right at home. Shout out to Miho as well at the front desk who is full of Aloha. Mahalo, Professor Marcelo and the whole Kailua crew—I'll be back again and hope to bring my keiki to train too. OSS!

Spent the week training with Marcelo and the Hawaii team. Top notch experience learning and training from a legend and an excellent group of students. I’ve been training for over 15 years and I always cherish the time I get to train with Marcelo. Everyone likes to train hard and Marcelo always makes a point to roll with as many people as possible including visitors. The humidity was tough because I’m from Northern Canada but I can’t wait to be back Thank you Marcelo!

Dropped in for a class during my visit and it was phenomenal. Everyone is super friendly and great instructions. Definitely recommend to anyone in the area or visiting.
