Our family has been fortunate to be a part of Contenders for the last five years. As society and the world continue to change, it has become challenging to instill the values of hard work and discipline. I believe wrestling is more than just throwing each other on a mat; what Contenders provides is a structured environment where individuals are held accountable and challenged in ways that prepare them for life’s lessons, lessons that are increasingly rare in today’s world outside of mom and dad's care. The tough love and peer relationships that have been built will last a lifetime. I’ve been grateful to witness my two boys develop a humble yet competitive spirit, shaping them for success and teaching them how to mentally handle challenges, both on and off the mat. This isn’t just a sport—the coaches and community truly care for these kids. I would encourage anyone considering wrestling to think beyond the sport itself. Even if they don’t wrestle forever, the life lessons and additional tools they gain will prepare them for much more. We are a community, and my family is proud to be a part of it. The Bales Family
