I didn't know where to go to learn to box. I found Jeff City Boxing online, and went inperson Jeremy(Owner) was welcoming and I started learning that moment. Its a boxing gym, great to learn to box, grow spiritually, and grow a brotherhood. You will be tired after every workout, and that's the best part.

I brought my 11-yr old son to watch some training because he's wanted to be involved in boxing. He really enjoyed the initial workouts and I could see he loved it! However, after about an hour a guest speaker came in and began preaching to the young people there. I was not aware religion was part of their program. I think it was the owner who was asking kids to comment afterwards. They pointed to my son and asked him "why do you think we do this?" My son said, "so that we can get better at boxing." The response was essentially the gym was about trying to make lives better - I saw my son sulk as he thought he got the right answer and was only there for the boxing and didn't expect this component. You could see it in his eyes and body language. I tried keeping my head down, played with my phone, anything to keep from grabbing my son and getting out of there because I was trying to be polite. Unfortunately, this person pointed me out. I tried to ignore it but they kept insisting I engage and he asked my opinion. I said, I personally do not agree with anything that was said and that I wasn't aware there would be a religious component. His response was: "Well, it's on our website...." He neglected to point out that the website is down and that some of us don't have Facebook. Also, none of the Google reviews mention religion. At that point, I chose to remove my child and I from the situation. My son pointed out that he felt very uncomfortable and that all he wanted to do was box. I 100% respect and understand they have a mission. Some children need the guidance in life. My child just wants the guidance in boxing. Unfortunately, with the lack of information regarding the facilities TRUE mission, I felt bamboozled. As an attorney, administrative law judge and public speaker who grew up in Jeffersonville, I'm happy to offer to speak to the children from a non-religious point of view about following the right path and succeeding. However, I doubt that I will be invited back. TLDR: Great coaches; religious aspect may turn some people off.
