Crunch Fitness - West Ashley
About
Crunch Fitness in West Ashley offers mixed martial arts and kickboxing training in a facility that receives consistently high praise for its staff. Members describe the team as friendly, helpful, and non-judgmental, with specific shout-outs to coaches like Koko who remember members personally and maintain a positive atmosphere. The gym provides standard amenities for these disciplines, though member experiences highlight a gap between the excellent on-site team and corporate support.
reviewsWhat Members Say
Members consistently praise the staff as amazing, friendly, and non-judgmental, with specific appreciation for coaches like Koko who remember members personally. However, they report significant concerns about equipment maintenance, with half the cable machines reportedly out of service for over a month and many locker locks not working. Parking is described as a major problem, with members circling for 20 minutes during peak times and machines being consistently occupied. Several reviews also mention frustration with membership rate increases without proper notification and difficulties with cancellation processes they characterize as deceptive.

Staff is friendly and does a good job keeping the place clean. But this place is a huge downgrade from the former occupant, O2 Fitness. It’s clear that ownership is willing to sacrifice member safety to protect .01% margin. Inexpensive and safety-oriented feedback that is continuously ignored: 1) water filters flash “red” for weeks on end 2) hang an $8 analog clock somewhere near the sauna to mitigate risk of heat exhaustion 3) 75% of lockers do not have working locks. Do better and you’ll do well.

I’ve been a member at Crunch Fitness in West Ashley for two years, and I have to say the staff here is truly incredible. They’re always friendly, helpful, and on top of their game. Even after a major turnover, the new team is just as reliable and welcoming. However, it’s clear that the corporate side doesn’t give this team the support they need to succeed. The staff works hard to keep things running smoothly, but they’re given bare-minimum resources to do their jobs. For example, half of the cable machines have been out of service for over a month, and the water fountain has been down for three weeks. These issues aren’t the staff’s responsibility to fix, but they still take the heat from frustrated members. As someone who has been to many gyms, I truly believe that if corporate would let this staff take the reins, this gym would thrive. The team on-site has the potential to make Crunch West Ashley one of the best gyms around — they just need the tools and support to do it.

The staff here are AMAZING! They are so welcoming, helpful, and non-judgmental with questions. Shout out to Koko who goes absolutely above and beyond to remember each member and always keeps a positive attitude. Truly makes me excited to go to the gym, having someone remember me each time! However, the parking here is a PROBLEM and memberships are being way oversold. If I come to the gym after work, I will drive around for 20 minutes and have to fight my way for a spot. The parking lot is also small, making it hard to navigate while everyone searches for a spot. People park across the street, in unmarked spaces, behind the buildings, and still no spots! It is understandable that the gym is very busy at this time, but they continue to market new memberships while every machine is taken after work (for example, yesterday I waited 20 minutes and could not get a stair master, treadmill, or elliptical). I have even tried leaving work 2 hours earlier, and I still struggle to find a spot. This is truly an amazing gym, but it is clear they need to open another location in Charleston or at least find a parking solution as they have oversold memberships.

Scam. the base membership that was $19 one year ago is now $40. I canceled my membership when i saw how much they increased it by (in person and signed documents) and was charged again anyway. When i called to speak with someone about it they had no record of me canceling. Exact same thing happened to my friend to. In the past I paused my membership for 3 months when traveling and they charged me for those months claiming no record of me pausing it despite having me sign a document at the time i initiated the pause. Scammmmm

I have been a crunch member since 2021. I have been through price increases, and so on. I think for under 30 bucks a month, being able to use any crunch across the nation is a steal. That being said, the West Ashley location is by far the worst location I’ve been to. I have moved but never changed my home location in the crunch database because I can use any location. As of 2026 the West Ashley location specifically, doubled their rates without proper notification. I didn’t receive an email, text, call, mail; unlike years past. I tried calling to cancel, they said I could only cancel in person, and I’d still be charged for the next month. They are extremely deceptive with cancellation and directly refute what is in your contract with crunch (one of those conditions is proper notification of price increases). I disputed the transaction with my bank and am changing my card. So much hassle for what reason? Reporting them to FTC and BBB.
